Description

Warm, fluffy dinner rolls made with garlic butter, perfect for family gatherings and holiday feasts.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk (240g), warm (around 110°F)
  • 3 teaspoons active dry or instant yeast
  • 1/3 cup sugar (70g)
  • 3 3/4 cup all-purpose flour (490g)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (85g), softened
  • Egg wash: 1 egg yolk and 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1/4 cup salted butter (57g)
  • 2-3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1-2 tablespoons freshly chopped parsley

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk to around 110°F and sprinkle the yeast in, letting it sit for a few minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the milk-yeast mixture with sugar, softened unsalted butter, salt, all-purpose flour, and the egg.
  3. Mix until forming a shaggy dough, then knead on a clean surface for about 15 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover with cling wrap, and let rise for about 90 minutes until doubled in size.
  5. Punch the dough down, turn it out onto a surface, and divide it into 12 equal pieces, rolling each into a tight ball.
  6. Line a 9×13 inch baking sheet with parchment paper and space the rolls out on it.
  7. Make the egg wash by mixing an egg yolk with 1 tablespoon of milk and brush it over the rolls.
  8. Let the rolls rise again for 30-45 minutes in a warm spot.
  9. Preheat the oven to 350°F, then brush the rolls again with egg wash before baking for 20-22 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

For best results, keep the dough warm and humid during rising. Use garlic butter for brushing after baking for enhanced flavor.
