Description

Learn how to make delicious deep-fried mac and cheese roll ups with this easy recipe. Crispy on the outside, cheesy on the inside – a perfect snack!

Ingredients

  • 7 ounces (200 g) sharp cheddar cheese (aged 3 years, shredded)
  • 2 quarts (2 liters) vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 8 ounces (225 g) macaroni noodles
  • 3 tablespoons (45 ml) butter
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) flour
  • 1 1/2 cups (360 ml) milk
  • 10 egg roll wrappers
  • BBQ sauce (or your preferred dipping sauce)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the macaroni by following the cooking instructions on its package.
  2. In a pot, melt the butter on medium heat and mix in the flour. Pour in the milk and lower the heat. Gradually incorporate the shredded cheese until it melts completely.
  3. Combine the cheese sauce with the cooked macaroni, stirring well to ensure it’s evenly coated.
  4. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a sturdy pan until it reaches 375°F.
  5. Position an egg roll wrapper in front of you, with a corner facing downward.
  6. Place about 1/4 cup of the macaroni and cheese mixture in the center of the wrapper, and moisten all four edges with water using your fingers. This will secure the egg roll once rolled.
  7. Fold the bottom corner over the filling, tuck in the left and right sides, and roll it up tightly. Repeat this process for all the remaining wrappers.
  8. Fry the rolls in groups for around 3 minutes or until they achieve a golden brown color.
  9. Let them drain on paper towels, then serve with BBQ sauce or your choice of dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Consider using a different cheese or adding herbs/spices for more flavor.
  • Ensure to drain cooked noodles well to avoid a watery dish.
  • Experiment with various dipping sauces for a perfect pairing.
