Ingredients

  • 1 pound (450 g) ground beef
  • 4 slices turkey bacon
  • 1 cup (120 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (240 ml) milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon (15 g) sugar
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 g) salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 g) black pepper
  • 4 ounce s (115 g) cheddar cheese, cut into small cubes
  • 1 cup (160 g) cornmeal
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Wooden skewers


Instructions

  1. Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Cook the turkey bacon until crispy, then remove and let cool.
  3. In the same skillet, add the ground beef and season with salt and black pepper.
  4. Cook the beef until browned, then drain any excess fat.
  5. Crumble the cooked bacon and mix it into the ground beef.
  6. Allow the beef and bacon mixture to cool slightly.
  7. Take small portions of the beef mix and shape them around a cube of cheddar cheese.
  8. Insert a wooden skewer into each beef-cheese ball, ensuring the cheese is fully enclosed.
  9. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cornmeal, baking powder, and sugar.
  10. In another bowl, beat the egg, then add milk and mix well.
  11. Combine the wet and dry ingredients to form a batter.
  12. Heat a pot of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C) for frying.
  13. Dip each beef ball into the batter, coating it evenly.
  14. Carefully lower the battered beef balls into the hot oil.
  15. Fry until golden brown and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes.
