Ingredients
- 1 (13-ounce) package beef sausage, sliced
- 1 (16-ounce) block sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 (1-pound) box elb ow macaroni
- 4 cup (960 ml) s milk
- 6 tablespoon (90 ml) s unsalted butter
- 6 tablespoon (90 ml) s all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) salt
Instructions
- ▢ In a large frying pan over medium heat, cook the sausage slices until they are lightly browned. Take them out of the pan and place on paper towels to drain. Put aside.
- ▢ Using a box grater, shred the cheddar cheese. Put aside.
- ▢ Prepare the elbow macaroni following the instructions on the package, then drain the water. Put aside.
- ▢ Heat the milk in a microwave-safe container until it is warm, approximately 2 1/2 minutes.
- ▢ In a large pot or Dutch oven, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute, constantly stirring. Slowly incorporate the warm milk, whisking continuously until fully combined. Stir often to prevent burning and cook until the mixture thickens, around 5 minutes.
- ▢ Lower the heat to a minimum and slowly stir in the grated cheese until it is completely melted. Add the salt and mix thoroughly. Combine the cooked pasta and sausage with the cheese sauce in the pot, mixing well. Season with additional salt and pepper if needed. Serve hot.
