Description

A comforting and hearty homemade chili that brings warmth and satisfaction to gatherings, perfect for cooler months.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1 can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, brown the ground beef or turkey over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until the onion is translucent.
  3. Stir in chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 1-2 minutes.
  4. Add kidney beans, black beans, diced tomatoes, and broth to the pot. Mix well.
  5. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat. Let it cook for about 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. For the slow cooker method, transfer the browned meat mixture and all other ingredients to the slow cooker. Cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
  7. Serve hot and enjoy your homemade chili!

Notes

Allowing the chili to sit for a while after cooking enhances the flavors. Consider adding toppings like shredded cheese, sour cream, or cilantro.
