Description

A delightful loaf that combines ripe bananas and rich cocoa for a comforting treat perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 large ripe bananas (about 1 1/2 cups mashed)
  • 1/4 cup salted butter (melted and slightly cooled)
  • 1/3 cup applesauce or your favorite cooking oil
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a 9-by-5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth.
  4. Add the melted butter and applesauce (or oil) to the mashed bananas and stir until fully combined.
  5. Incorporate the brown sugar, egg, and vanilla extract into the banana mixture and blend until smooth.
  6. Gently mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, being careful not to overmix.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread it evenly.
  8. Bake for 50 minutes to 1 hour and 10 minutes, checking for doneness at 50 minutes.
  9. Remove from the oven and allow the bread to rest in the pan for 30-45 minutes before transferring to a wire cooling rack.

Notes

Ensure your bananas are very ripe for optimal sweetness. You can also add nuts or chocolate chips for a richer texture.
