Ingredients
- 1 pound (454 g) beef top sirloin steak
- 25 cup (60 ml) soy sauce
- 2 tablespoon (30 ml) s white sugar
- 2 tablespoon (30 ml) s cornstarch
- 5 teaspoon (3 ml) ground ginger
- 3 tablespoon (45 ml) s vegetable oil, divided
- 1 red onion, cut into 1-inch squares
- 1 green bell pepper, cut into 1-inch squares
- 2 tomatoes, cut into wedges
Instructions
- Cut the sirloin steak into slices that are half an inch thick, slicing against the grain.
- In a bowl, combine soy sauce, sugar, cornstarch, and ginger, whisking until the sugar is fully dissolved and the mixture is smooth. Add the steak slices to this marinade, ensuring they are thoroughly coated.
- In a wok or a large pan, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Cook the steak in the hot oil in batches to avoid overcrowding, stirring until each batch is well-browned, which should take about 3 minutes. Transfer the cooked steak to a bowl. Continue this process with the remaining steak, adding more oil if necessary, and set the cooked meat aside.
- Place the cooked steak slices back into the hot wok and add the onion. Stir the steak and onion together until the onion begins to soften, which should take about 2 minutes. Then add the green bell pepper.
- Continue cooking and stirring until the peppers become bright green and start to soften, approximately 2 more minutes, then add the tomato wedges.
- Mix everything together thoroughly to combine the flavors, then serve.
Notes
- For a healthier choice, opt for low-sodium soy sauce to reduce overall sodium levels.
- Enhance flavor by marinating steak slices longer, like overnight in the fridge.
- Customize your stir-fry by adding favorite veggies like mushrooms or broccoli.
