Description

Deliciously chewy cookies made with sourdough discard, cocoa powder, and chocolate chips for a unique flavor twist.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sourdough discard
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the sourdough discard, melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together the cocoa powder, flour, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. If using, fold in the chocolate chips.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
  7. Allow cooling on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For the best results, avoid over-mixing the dough. Store cookies in an airtight container to maintain chewiness.
