Description

Delicious cherry cheese danishes featuring a rich cream cheese filling and tart cherry topping, all embraced by flaky puff pastry.

Ingredients

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon ricotta cheese
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract (or vanilla extract)
  • Pinch of salt
  • ½ tablespoon lemon zest
  • 2 sheets puff pastry (1 box)
  • 1 can cherry pie filling
  • 1 large egg (plus 1 tablespoon of water)
  • Flour (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Blend softened cream cheese and sugar together in a medium bowl using an electric mixer until smooth.
  2. Add egg yolk, ricotta cheese, almond extract, salt, and lemon zest; blend until combined and refrigerate the mixture.
  3. Flour the surface and roll out the thawed puff pastry, then cut into heart shapes.
  4. Transfer pastry hearts to baking sheets; prick centers with a fork.
  5. Divide the cream cheese mixture among the hearts, spreading gently.
  6. Spoon a tablespoon of cherry pie filling over each heart.
  7. Beat the egg with water to create an egg wash; brush on the edges of the pastry hearts.
  8. Refrigerate assembled danishes for 15 minutes before baking.
  9. Bake at 350°F for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Chill the cream cheese mixture before assembly to prevent spillage during baking. Experiment with different fruit toppings for variation.
