A creamy and cheesy hash brown casserole that combines crispy hash browns and melted cheddar, perfect for brunch or dinner gatherings.
Ingredients
- 30 oz frozen hash browns (thawed)
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup (condensed)
- 1 cup sour cream (full-fat recommended)
- 1/2 cup melted unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup chopped onion (yellow or white)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (freshly ground)
- Optional toppings: breadcrumbs, crumbled bacon, or chopped chives
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the thawed hash browns, 1 1/2 cups of the shredded cheddar cheese, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, melted butter, chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Mix all ingredients thoroughly until well combined.
- Transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Top with the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the casserole is golden and bubbly.
- Allow it to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, sauté the chopped onion in a bit of melted butter before adding. For crunch, sprinkle with breadcrumbs during the last 10 minutes of baking.
