Description

A creamy and cheesy hash brown casserole that combines crispy hash browns and melted cheddar, perfect for brunch or dinner gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 30 oz frozen hash browns (thawed)
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup (condensed)
  • 1 cup sour cream (full-fat recommended)
  • 1/2 cup melted unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion (yellow or white)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (freshly ground)
  • Optional toppings: breadcrumbs, crumbled bacon, or chopped chives

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the thawed hash browns, 1 1/2 cups of the shredded cheddar cheese, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, melted butter, chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Mix all ingredients thoroughly until well combined.
  4. Transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  5. Top with the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the casserole is golden and bubbly.
  7. Allow it to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, sauté the chopped onion in a bit of melted butter before adding. For crunch, sprinkle with breadcrumbs during the last 10 minutes of baking.
