Description

A delightful appetizer that combines warm, gooey mozzarella cheese with festive bread shaped like a Christmas tree, perfect for holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 13-ounce canned refrigerator pizza dough
  • Parchment paper (for lining baking sheet)
  • 6-7 mozzarella cheese sticks
  • 1 large egg (+ 1 tablespoon water for egg wash)
  • 3 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese (divided)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 tablespoon fresh rosemary (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 tablespoon fresh basil (finely chopped)
  • 1 clove garlic (grated)
  • 1 jar marinara and/or pesto (for dipping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cut the dough into approximately 30 equal squares.
  3. Cut the mozzarella cheese sticks into 30 bite-sized pieces.
  4. Place a piece of mozzarella on each square of dough and roll into a ball, sealing the edges well.
  5. Lay each dough ball seam side down on the prepared baking sheet, arranging them in the shape of a tree.
  6. In a small bowl, blend the egg with water, then lightly brush each ball with this egg wash.
  7. Bake for 16-18 minutes until golden brown.
  8. While baking, microwave the melted butter, stirring in half of the grated parmesan, garlic, and herbs.
  9. Once baked, brush the mixture onto the rolls and finish with the remaining parmesan cheese. Serve warm with marinara or pesto for dipping.

Notes

Experiment with different types of cheeses for unique flavors, and don’t rush the process! Making bread should be enjoyable.
