Description

A delightful appetizer made with gooey mozzarella and fresh herbs, shaped like a Christmas tree, perfect for holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 13 ounces of canned refrigerator pizza dough
  • Parchment paper for lining the baking sheet
  • 6-7 mozzarella cheese sticks
  • 1 large egg (+ 1 tablespoon of water for egg wash)
  • 3 tablespoons of butter (melted)
  • 1/2 cup of grated parmesan cheese (divided)
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh parsley (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 tablespoon of fresh rosemary (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 tablespoon of fresh basil (finely chopped)
  • 1 clove of garlic (grated)
  • 1 jar of marinara and/or pesto for dipping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cut the pizza dough into approximately 30 equal squares and cut the mozzarella cheese sticks into bite-sized pieces.
  3. In each square of dough, place a piece of mozzarella, then roll the dough into a ball, sealing the edges well.
  4. Place the cheese-filled dough balls seam side down on the baking sheet, ensuring they touch each other to create a tree shape.
  5. In a small bowl, blend the egg with one tablespoon of water to create the egg wash, then brush it over each roll.
  6. Bake for 16 to 18 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. While the rolls bake, melt the butter and mix with half of the grated parmesan, grated garlic, and chopped herbs.
  8. Brush the mixture over the baked rolls and sprinkle the remaining parmesan cheese on top. Serve with marinara and/or pesto for dipping.

Notes

For best flavor, use fresh herbs and serve immediately after baking.
