Description

Discover how to make a delicious Cheesy Beef & Broccoli Skillet in this easy recipe. Perfect for a quick and satisfying meal!

Ingredients

  • 454 g ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 946 ml chopped broccoli
  • 45 ml all-purpose flour
  • 15 ml chopped fresh sage
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 355 ml nonfat milk
  • 113 g reduced-fat cream cheese
  • 113 g shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 5 tsp (3 ml) salt
  • 25 tsp (1 ml) ground pepper
  • 158 ml panko breadcrumbs, preferably whole-wheat
  • 15 ml vegetable oil
  • 5 tsp (3 ml) paprika

Instructions

  1. Arrange the oven rack in the upper section and preheat the broiler. In a large skillet that is safe for broiling, cook the ground beef and onion over medium heat, using a wooden spoon to break the beef into smaller pieces, until the beef is fully cooked and no longer pink, around 10 minutes. Incorporate the broccoli and continue cooking, stirring now and then, until the broccoli is crisp-tender, approximately 3 minutes. Add the flour, sage, and garlic, and stir constantly to coat the beef and vegetables with the mixture, for about 1 minute.
  2. Pour in the milk and bring it to a gentle boil over medium-high heat. Let it cook, stirring occasionally, until it thickens, which should take 1 to 2 minutes. Mix in the cream cheese and Cheddar, stirring until they are melted, about 1 minute. Take the skillet off the heat and mix in the salt and pepper.
  3. In a small bowl, combine breadcrumbs, oil, and paprika. Spread this mixture evenly over the contents in the skillet.
  4. Place the dish under the broiler until the breadcrumbs are golden and the edges are bubbling, which will take 1 to 3 minutes.

Notes

  • Substitute whole-wheat panko breadcrumbs for added fiber.
  • Use reduced-fat cream cheese and Cheddar cheese to lower fat content.
  • Add a pinch of cayenne pepper for a subtle heat kick.
