Description

Nostalgic cabbage rolls stuffed with a savory mixture of ground beef, Italian sausage, and rice, topped with rich tomato sauce.

Ingredients

  • Cabbage leaves
  • Italian sausage
  • Ground beef
  • Rice (cooked)
  • Onion (chopped)
  • Garlic (minced)
  • Tomato sauce
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Boil cabbage leaves in salted water for 5-7 minutes until tender.
  3. In a skillet, cook chopped onion and garlic until softened.
  4. In a bowl, mix cooked rice, Italian sausage, ground beef, sautéed onion and garlic, salt, and pepper.
  5. Place a portion of the filling in each cabbage leaf, roll tightly, and tuck in the sides.
  6. Spread some tomato sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.
  7. Place the cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish and pour remaining sauce over the top.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  9. If using, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese before serving.

Notes

For best results, choose fresh cabbage and slightly undercook the rice. Freeze any leftovers for up to three months.
