Description

A warm and cozy bake combining sweet apples and earthy butternut squash, enhanced with cinnamon and topped with crunchy nuts.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium butternut squash, peeled and diced
  • 3 medium apples, cored and diced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the diced butternut squash and apples.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the sugar mixture over the squash and apples, gently folding to combine.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and spread it evenly.
  6. Sprinkle the chopped nuts on top.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the squash is tender and the top is golden brown.
  8. Optionally, broil for a few minutes for a caramelized finish.

Notes

For added depth of flavor, consider toasting the nuts beforehand or adding a hint of ginger or allspice.
