Ingredients
- Olive oil, for sauteing
- 2 stalks celery, finely diced (120g)
- 1 onion, finely diced (150g)
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped
- 3 pounds ground beef (1360g)
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) chili powder
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) ground oregano
- 15 ounces (450ml) Bloody Mary mix, plus more if needed
- 1/4 cup (60ml) vegetable broth, optional
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) Montreal steak seasoning
- Several dashes Tabasco, or to taste
- Several dashes Worcestershire sauce, or to taste
- One 15-ounce can kidney beans, drained and rinsed (425g)
- One 15-ounce can pinto beans, drained and rinsed (425g)
Instructions
- In a large pot on medium heat, pour in some olive oil and sauté the diced celery and onions until they become tender.
- Introduce the chopped garlic and mix it in, followed by adding the ground beef.
- Cook until the beef is fully browned, approximately 5 to 10 minutes, and then remove any excess fat.
- Incorporate the chili powder, ground cumin, and oregano, stirring thoroughly.
- In a separate container, combine the Bloody Mary mix, Montreal steak seasoning, Tabasco, and Worcestershire sauce, then pour this mixture into the pot.
- Add the kidney and pinto beans, mix everything together well, cover with a lid, and lower the heat to a simmer.
- Let it cook gently for an hour, stirring from time to time. If the mixture becomes too thick, add more Bloody Mary mix or water as needed.
- Present the chili with celery sticks, carrot sticks, ranch dressing, and tortilla chips on the side.
Notes
- Consider using homemade or high-quality store-bought Bloody Mary mix for enhanced flavor.
- For a healthier twist, substitute ground turkey or chicken for the ground beef.
- Adjust spiciness to your liking by varying Tabasco and Worcestershire sauce amounts.
