Delicious cinnamon rolls made with sourdough discard, creating a tender texture and unique flavor while reducing food waste.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sourdough starter
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup raisins or nuts (optional)
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted (for brushing)
- Icing (optional)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the sourdough starter, milk, sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt, stirring until smooth.
- Gradually add the flour, ensuring a soft consistency, and light knead if necessary.
- Cover with a damp cloth and let rise for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangular shape and brush with melted butter.
- Sprinkle cinnamon and brown sugar evenly; add raisins or nuts if desired.
- Roll tightly from the long side and cut into rolls.
- Place in a greased baking dish and allow to rise for another hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Optionally, drizzle icing over warm rolls before serving.
