Description

Delicious cinnamon rolls made with sourdough discard, creating a tender texture and unique flavor while reducing food waste.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup raisins or nuts (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted (for brushing)
  • Icing (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the sourdough starter, milk, sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt, stirring until smooth.
  2. Gradually add the flour, ensuring a soft consistency, and light knead if necessary.
  3. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
  4. Roll out the dough into a rectangular shape and brush with melted butter.
  5. Sprinkle cinnamon and brown sugar evenly; add raisins or nuts if desired.
  6. Roll tightly from the long side and cut into rolls.
  7. Place in a greased baking dish and allow to rise for another hour.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Optionally, drizzle icing over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

Ensure your sourdough starter is active for best results. Monitor rising times and consider variations in fillings.
