Description

A hearty blend of baked beans, ground beef, and smoky sausage that delivers a perfect balance of sweetness and savory flavors, making it a staple for barbecues and potlucks.

Ingredients

  • 28 oz canned baked beans
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1/2 lb bacon, diced
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon BBQ seasoning

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a large cast iron pan, seasoning with salt, cracked black pepper, and garlic powder. Drain excess grease and set aside.
  2. Add diced onion, green bell pepper, sliced smoked sausage, and diced bacon to the same pan. Sauté until the vegetables soften and the bacon crisps.
  3. Mix the browned beef back into the pan, then add the canned baked beans, maple syrup, light brown sugar, BBQ seasoning, and water. Stir to combine.
  4. Preheat your smoker to 225°F and place the cast iron pan inside to cook for one hour. Increase the temperature to 350°F for the last 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Remove from heat, stir again before serving.

Notes

For a spicier version, add jalapeños or hot sauce. Vegetarian alternatives can be made by substituting the beef and sausage with more beans or mushrooms.
