Ingredients

  • 1 pound (454 g) ground beef (450 grams)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) breadcrumbs (120 grams)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) barbecue sauce (120 milliliters)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) shredded cheddar cheese (60 grams)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) chopped onions (40 grams)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) salt (5 grams)
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) black pepper (1 gram)
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) smoked paprika (1 gram)
  • 4 sub rolls
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) mayonnaise (120 milliliters)
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) mustard (15 milliliters)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) lettuce, shredded (60 grams)
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) pickles, sliced (75 grams)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) turkey or beef bacon, cooked and crumbled (60 grams)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, onions, garlic, salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika.
  3. Mix in 1/4 cup barbecue sauce and shredded cheddar cheese until well combined.
  4. Form mixture into 1-inch (2.5 cm) meatballs.
  5. Place meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Bake meatballs in the oven for 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through.
  7. While meatballs bake, mix mayonnaise and mustard in a small bowl.
  8. Slice sub rolls open lengthwise, without cutting all the way through.
  9. Spread mayonnaise-mustard mixture on the inside of each sub roll.
  10. Place shredded lettuce inside each sub roll.
  11. Add sliced tomato and pickles on top of the lettuce.
  12. Once meatballs are cooked, remove them from the oven.
  13. Toss cooked meatballs with remaining 1/4 cup barbecue sauce.
  14. Place a few meatballs in each sub roll.
  15. Top meatballs with crumbled bacon.
