Ingredients
- 1 pound (454 g) ground beef (450 grams)
- 1 cup (240 ml) breadcrumbs (120 grams)
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) barbecue sauce (120 milliliters)
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) shredded cheddar cheese (60 grams)
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) chopped onions (40 grams)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) salt (5 grams)
- 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) black pepper (1 gram)
- 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) smoked paprika (1 gram)
- 4 sub rolls
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) mayonnaise (120 milliliters)
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) mustard (15 milliliters)
- 1 cup (240 ml) lettuce, shredded (60 grams)
- 1 tomato, sliced
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) pickles, sliced (75 grams)
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) turkey or beef bacon, cooked and crumbled (60 grams)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, onions, garlic, salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika.
- Mix in 1/4 cup barbecue sauce and shredded cheddar cheese until well combined.
- Form mixture into 1-inch (2.5 cm) meatballs.
- Place meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake meatballs in the oven for 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through.
- While meatballs bake, mix mayonnaise and mustard in a small bowl.
- Slice sub rolls open lengthwise, without cutting all the way through.
- Spread mayonnaise-mustard mixture on the inside of each sub roll.
- Place shredded lettuce inside each sub roll.
- Add sliced tomato and pickles on top of the lettuce.
- Once meatballs are cooked, remove them from the oven.
- Toss cooked meatballs with remaining 1/4 cup barbecue sauce.
- Place a few meatballs in each sub roll.
- Top meatballs with crumbled bacon.
