Description

A delightful melding of traditional baklava flavors with the fluffiness of a cake, topped with a crunchy baklava layer.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter (melted)
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (pistachios, almonds, walnuts)
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp corn syrup
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 box (15.25 oz) vanilla cake mix
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 tbsp sour cream
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1-1 1/2 tbsp warm water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix melted butter, chopped nuts, brown sugar, corn syrup, and cinnamon for the baklava topping.
  3. In a separate mixing bowl, combine vanilla cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, water, and sour cream until smooth.
  4. Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared pan.
  5. Spread the baklava topping mixture evenly over the first layer of batter.
  6. Pour the remaining cake batter on top.
  7. Bake for about 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Prepare the honey glaze by mixing honey, powdered sugar, lemon juice, and warm water until smooth.
  9. Let the cake cool for a few minutes before drizzling it with the honey glaze and cool completely before serving.

Notes

Toast the nuts for a more intense flavor. Let the cake cool slightly before glazing for better absorption.
