Description
A delightful melding of traditional baklava flavors with the fluffiness of a cake, topped with a crunchy baklava layer.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup butter (melted)
- 1 cup chopped nuts (pistachios, almonds, walnuts)
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp corn syrup
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 box (15.25 oz) vanilla cake mix
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup water
- 3 tbsp sour cream
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1-1 1/2 tbsp warm water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a bowl, mix melted butter, chopped nuts, brown sugar, corn syrup, and cinnamon for the baklava topping.
- In a separate mixing bowl, combine vanilla cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, water, and sour cream until smooth.
- Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared pan.
- Spread the baklava topping mixture evenly over the first layer of batter.
- Pour the remaining cake batter on top.
- Bake for about 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Prepare the honey glaze by mixing honey, powdered sugar, lemon juice, and warm water until smooth.
- Let the cake cool for a few minutes before drizzling it with the honey glaze and cool completely before serving.
Notes
Toast the nuts for a more intense flavor. Let the cake cool slightly before glazing for better absorption.
