  • 4 tablespoons (60 ml) vegetable oil (1/2 stick) (57 grams)
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) olive oil (15 milliliters)
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon olive oil.
  3. Add the thinly sliced onion to the skillet and sauté for 5 minutes until translucent.
  4. Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional 1 minute.
  5. Season the onion and garlic with salt and pepper to taste, then set aside.
  6. In the same skillet, cook the turkey bacon over medium heat until crispy, about 6-8 minutes.
  7. Remove the bacon from the skillet and drain on paper towels.
  8. Wipe the skillet clean with a paper towel.
  9. Spread butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread.
  10. Place 4 slices of bread, butter side down, in the skillet.
  11. Evenly distribute 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the bread slices in the skillet.
  12. Sprinkle the cooked onion and garlic mixture over the cheese.
  13. Crumble the cooked turkey bacon and spread it evenly over the onion mixture.
  14. Top with the remaining 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese.
  15. Place the remaining 4 slices of bread on top, butter side up.
  16. Heat the skillet over medium heat and cook until the bottom bread is golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
  17. Carefully flip the sandwiches and cook the other side until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
  18. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted.
  19. Remove the skillet from the oven and let it cool slightly.
  20. Serve warm, sliced in halves or quarters.

Notes

  • Use whole wheat bread for a healthier option.
  • Experiment with mozzarella or pepper jack for a unique flavor.
