A warm and comforting apple crumb cake with a sweet crumbly topping, perfect for autumn gatherings.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups apples, peeled and chopped
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition before stirring in the milk and vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mix, stirring until just combined.
- Fold in the chopped apples gently to distribute them evenly.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
- In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, rolled oats, and a bit more cinnamon to create the crumb topping, then sprinkle it over the batter.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, checking with a toothpick inserted in the center; it should come out clean.
- Let the cake cool slightly before serving, and drizzle with a sweet cinnamon apple glaze if desired.
Notes
For a crunchy topping, bake for a few extra minutes but keep an eye to prevent burning. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before slicing for cleaner cuts.
