Description

A warm and comforting apple crumb cake with a sweet crumbly topping, perfect for autumn gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups apples, peeled and chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition before stirring in the milk and vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mix, stirring until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chopped apples gently to distribute them evenly.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
  8. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, rolled oats, and a bit more cinnamon to create the crumb topping, then sprinkle it over the batter.
  9. Bake for 45-50 minutes, checking with a toothpick inserted in the center; it should come out clean.
  10. Let the cake cool slightly before serving, and drizzle with a sweet cinnamon apple glaze if desired.

Notes

For a crunchy topping, bake for a few extra minutes but keep an eye to prevent burning. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before slicing for cleaner cuts.
