Delicious, crispy onions made easily in an air fryer, perfect for toppings or snacking.
Ingredients
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup buttermilk (or milk with vinegar)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1/2 tsp paprika (optional)
- Cooking spray or oil for the air fryer
Instructions
- Soak the sliced onions in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes.
- Mix flour, salt, pepper, and paprika in one bowl; place breadcrumbs in another bowl.
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Dredge each onion slice first in the flour mixture, then in buttermilk, and finally coat it with breadcrumbs.
- Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray, then arrange the onions in a single layer.
- Spray the tops of the onions with cooking spray.
- Air fry for about 10-15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
- Serve warm as a snack or topping.
Notes
Ensure the air fryer is preheated and avoid overcrowding to achieve maximum crispiness. Experiment with different spices or flavored breadcrumbs for variations.
