Description

Learn how to make delicious and crispy Air Fryer BBQ Chicken Wings at home with this easy recipe. Perfect for a quick and tasty meal!

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs (907 g) Chicken Wings (drums and flats) (defrosted if frozen)
  • 2 tsp (10 ml) Smoked Paprika
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) Dried Thyme
  • 2 tsp (10 ml) Herbs De Provence or Italian Seasoning
  • 2 tsp (10 ml) Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) Onion Powder
  • 1/2 tsp (3 ml) Sea Salt or to taste
  • 1/4 tsp (1 ml) Freshly Ground Pepper or to taste
  • 4 tsp (20 ml) Baking Powder
  • 1 cup (240 ml) Homemade BBQ sauce, or your favorite store-bought sauce plus more if needed

Instructions

  1. Dry the chicken wings thoroughly using a paper towel. Combine the wings with the spices and baking powder in a large bowl, ensuring they are evenly covered.
  2. Set the air fryer to 380°F and let it warm up for 3 minutes.
  3. Lightly coat the air fryer basket with oil spray. Arrange the chicken in a single layer in the basket, avoiding any overlap.
  4. Cook the wings at 380°F for 10 minutes, then turn them over and continue cooking for 7-10 more minutes, until fully cooked with an internal temperature of 165°F. You may need to cook in batches to prevent overcrowding.
  5. Move the cooked wings to a clean bowl. Pour ⅔ cup of barbecue sauce over the wings and mix until they are well-coated.
  6. Return the sauce-covered wings to the air fryer and heat them at 350°F for 3-5 minutes.
  7. Serve right away. For additional sauciness, place the wings back in the bowl and drizzle with an extra 1/4 cup of barbecue sauce.
  8. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  9. Coat the wings with the spice mixture and baking powder.
  10. Arrange the wings on a wire rack suitable for the oven in a single layer and bake for 45 minutes, flipping them halfway through.
  11. Afterward, toss the wings in barbecue sauce and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until they are fully cooked with an internal temperature of 165°F.
  12. Coat the wings with more barbecue sauce and savor the flavor!

Notes

  • Thoroughly pat dry chicken wings before coating with spices for a crispy skin in the air fryer.
  • Adjust BBQ sauce to taste, adding more after cooking if desired.
  • Flip wings halfway through oven cooking for even crispiness, and check internal temperature before serving.
