Ingredients
- 2 lbs (907 g) Chicken Wings (drums and flats) (defrosted if frozen)
- 2 tsp (10 ml) Smoked Paprika
- 1 tsp (5 ml) Dried Thyme
- 2 tsp (10 ml) Herbs De Provence or Italian Seasoning
- 2 tsp (10 ml) Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp (5 ml) Onion Powder
- 1/2 tsp (3 ml) Sea Salt or to taste
- 1/4 tsp (1 ml) Freshly Ground Pepper or to taste
- 4 tsp (20 ml) Baking Powder
- 1 cup (240 ml) Homemade BBQ sauce, or your favorite store-bought sauce plus more if needed
Instructions
- Dry the chicken wings thoroughly using a paper towel. Combine the wings with the spices and baking powder in a large bowl, ensuring they are evenly covered.
- Set the air fryer to 380°F and let it warm up for 3 minutes.
- Lightly coat the air fryer basket with oil spray. Arrange the chicken in a single layer in the basket, avoiding any overlap.
- Cook the wings at 380°F for 10 minutes, then turn them over and continue cooking for 7-10 more minutes, until fully cooked with an internal temperature of 165°F. You may need to cook in batches to prevent overcrowding.
- Move the cooked wings to a clean bowl. Pour ⅔ cup of barbecue sauce over the wings and mix until they are well-coated.
- Return the sauce-covered wings to the air fryer and heat them at 350°F for 3-5 minutes.
- Serve right away. For additional sauciness, place the wings back in the bowl and drizzle with an extra 1/4 cup of barbecue sauce.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- Coat the wings with the spice mixture and baking powder.
- Arrange the wings on a wire rack suitable for the oven in a single layer and bake for 45 minutes, flipping them halfway through.
- Afterward, toss the wings in barbecue sauce and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until they are fully cooked with an internal temperature of 165°F.
- Coat the wings with more barbecue sauce and savor the flavor!
Notes
- Thoroughly pat dry chicken wings before coating with spices for a crispy skin in the air fryer.
- Adjust BBQ sauce to taste, adding more after cooking if desired.
- Flip wings halfway through oven cooking for even crispiness, and check internal temperature before serving.
