Ingredients

  • – 15 ml (1 tbsp) olive oil
  • – 60 g (1/4 cup) yellow onion, finely chopped
  • – 1 garlic clove, minced
  • – 450 g (1 lb) lean ground beef, 90% lean
  • – 15 ml (1 tbsp) chili powder
  • – 5 ml (1 tsp) ground cumin
  • – 5 ml (1 tsp) paprika
  • – 1.25 ml (1/4 tsp) dried oregano
  • – 2.5 ml (1/2 tsp) onion powder
  • – 1.25 ml (1/4 tsp) salt
  • – 1.25 ml (1/4 tsp) black pepper
  • – Pinch of cayenne pepper
  • – Tomato, diced
  • – Iceberg lettuce, shredded
  • – Medium cheddar cheese, shredded
  • – Sour cream or yogurt
  • – Cilantro
  • – Crunchy corn taco shells or soft flour or corn tortillas
  • – Limes, (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Pour a tablespoon of olive oil into a large pan and set the burner to medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until it turns translucent, which should take approximately 3-5 minutes.
  2. Increase the heat to medium-high and introduce the lean ground beef along with the minced garlic to the pan.
  3. Cook the beef while stirring until it’s about 90% cooked through. Then incorporate the following seasonings: chili powder, ground cumin, paprika, dried oregano, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and a dash of cayenne pepper.
  4. Allow the beef to finish cooking with the spices for another 2-3 minutes. Taste and adjust the salt level according to your preference.
  5. Fill your taco shells or tortillas with the prepared beef mixture, then add your choice of toppings such as shredded iceberg lettuce, diced tomatoes, grated cheddar cheese, sour cream, fresh cilantro, and a splash of lime juice. Serve the tacos right away for optimal flavor.

Notes

  • Enhance flavor with a splash of fresh lime juice before serving. It adds a refreshing kick.
  • Add a dollop of sour cream or yogurt for a creamy texture on top of the beef mixture.
  • Opt for crunchy corn taco shells for a nice crunch and different texture experience.
